Modular Series Triacetyluridine: Triacetyluridine (TAU) is a form of uridine that is seven times more bioavailable, and significantly more fat soluble. Once in the body, it is degraded to uridine in the intestine and blood by esterase enzymes. Uridine is a nucleotide base occurring naturally in the food supply in, among other things, beer and breast milk. Uridine crosses the blood-brain barrier. Uridine is a precursor in the endogenous biosynthesis of CDP-choline and eventually phosphatidylcholine, with supplemental uridine increasing production of phospholipids which may aid synaptic function. Uridine is also a neurotransmitter, as a ligand of the P2Y2 purinergic receptors, and may potentiate NGF/TrkA signalling in neuronal development and regeneration as well as being generally neuroprotective under inflammatory conditions. As a dietary supplement, TAU is often stacked with a form of choline and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA, a component of fish oil) to maximise nootropic effects.
